Forever Saroyan maintains a William Saroyan research archive in San Jose, California, open to researchers by appointment. This page also identifies libraries, museums, archives, and organizations that preserve Saroyan’s papers, books, artwork, and literary legacy. Saroyan Archives and Research Institutions

• The Green Library at Stanford University holds the largest collection of Saroyan materials, William Saroyan Papers, 1926-1981. Study their collection online by clicking here. To request materials, use Stanford’s catalog search engine. The collection number is M0870.

• The Saroyan House Museum, located in Saroyan’s former home in Fresno, offers an exhibition room as well as a reading room to conduct Saroyan research. Book an appointment in advance: 

• The William Saroyan Foundation underwrites The William Saroyan International Prize for Writing and The Saroyan/Paul Human Rights Playwriting Prize. It also holds artwork by Saroyan.

• Saroyan materials can be found in many institutional collections. The Online Archive of California collects finding aids from across California to help researchers find historical records to study. Search for “William Saroyan” at https://oac.cdlib.org to discover all of the collections that contain Saroyan records.
